International Involvement

Tim Hillier

Tim began his career in 1984 as a volunteer “Ambulance Driver” (his words) in his hometown of Rivers Manitoba, population 800.  His love of the profession moved him to Saskatoon Saskatchewan where he continued his training and moved up the ranks going from EMT to Paramedic, Shift Supervisor to Deputy Chief, Professional Standards with Medavie Health Services West with responsibility for overseeing the continuing education and quality of care of 140 paramedics responding to 30,000 calls per year.  He has a passion for teaching others and currently holds instructor certifications in ACLS, BCLS, ITLS and PEPP.  He currently lives just outside of Saskatoon on 10 acres with his wife Eileen and their two horses, 1 cat and a dog named Lily.  Along with his Advanced Care Paramedic diploma Tim holds certificates from the University of Saskatchewan in Health Care Administration, Adult and Continuing Education as well as a Masters Certificate in Project Management and has completed his Master’s degree in Learning and Technology through Royal Roads University in Victoria.  In his volunteer roles, Tim sits on the editorial boards of EMSWorld and Canadian Paramedicine magazines as well as the Editorial board of International Trauma Life support where he leads the exam and eTrauma teams.  


Terry Hastings

Terry is the Academic Chair of the Saskatchewan Polytechnic Paramedic, Pharmacy Technician and Veterinary Technology programs. He has been a licensed funeral director in Saskatchewan for 31 years and been involved in Emergency Medical Services for 17 years. Terry has been an ITLS instructor for 9 years and has served on the Saskatchewan ITLS Chapter Advisory Committee for 5 years, acting as the Advisory Committee Chair for 3 years. He was recently appointed Vice Chair of the ITLS International Editorial Board Scenario Development Committee. When not involved with education, Terry enjoys spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren.


Matt McGurk

Matt is an Advanced Care Paramedic and Full Time Paramedic Instructor with Saskatchewan Polytechnic. He continuous to work with Medavie Health Services West on a casual basis. Matt believes in lifelong learning and holds a Master of Arts in Health Leadership and holds a Certified Health Executive designation through the Canadian College of Health Leaders. He joined the ITLS Saskatchewan Advisory Committee in 2017, Co-Chairing the Education Committee and works with ITLS International as Vice-Chair of the ITLS International Editorial Board Scenario Development Committee.
